Review of 2008 MegaCon (by Jo) March 15, 2008
For those of you who couldn't, wouldn't or didn't make it out to this years MegaCon, you really missed out on a great time.
This year's MegaCon was even more amazing than last years. I've been to DragonCon (a similar type of convention held each year in Atlanta, that is quite big) and from what I viewed this year at MegaCon I would feel safe in saying that in just a few years this convention will become almost as big. I was impressed last year with the number of convention-goers, Media & Comic Book Guests and Vendors but it didn't seem to compare with the number this year. It may have just been a different perspective or that I had a newbie with me at this years' event but it seemed much larger than last.
This year the convention was held in one of the South Halls in the newer part of the Orange County Convention Center. It may have not been larger than last years hall but it sure seemed like it was. The convention floor was set-up much the same as last years except this year there was a huge area in the back for guests to stop and grab a snack and look at all their great loot. The RPG and some of the other convention events were held in smaller halls on the second floor of the convention center and the Anime Panels, etc. were held on the third floor.
My favorite part of this convention though were the tons of convention-goers decked out as their favorite anime character, comic book character, movie character, television character and just about anything else you can think of. They were all having a great time and I have to say we had a great time looking at them. Some of the costumes were simply amazing.
MegaCon is becoming a really big pull to the Orlando area and quickly becoming an OrlandoRocks favorite.

Review (by Jo) February 20, 2007
Okay so I said that I wouldn't get this done until tomorrow because I'm exhausted from running around all weekend but I just couldn't wait.
When I stepped into the Orange County Convention Center I didn't know what to expect. My first reaction was that I had teleported to another planet. There were people everywhere dressed as comic book characters, anime characters, video game characters, etc.... After my initial reaction though I realized that all of these people were having the best times of their lives and it was really wonderful to see. There were so many people mingling around it was hard to walk and we hadn't even entered Hall C where the convention was being held. We were only in the lobby! Cameras were flashing everywhere as people were taking pictures of each other and it was as if everyone knew everyone else no matter whether they had ever met or not. Everyone was greeting each other, smiling as big as they could and having a great time.
Once inside the fun really started though. There were tons of booths with just about anything you can imagine and a lot more people dressed up. Some areas were so crowded it was virtually impossible to walk through. And more smiles! I don't think I heard a complaint out of one person all day. There were different areas set up for different things. Most of the main floor area consisted of booths with different artists, comic book sellers and other types of retail. In the middle of the main floor were the Comic Book Artists who were signing merchandise as well as selling prints of some of their work. Against the left wall were the Media Guests with lines of people waiting for autographs and photos. Most of the stars were asking $20 (at least) for a personally autographed picture and if you bought one they would also let you take a picture with them. Sean Astin seemed to have the largest line while we were there. We did get a few autographs and a picture with Kevin Sorbo (from Hercules and Andromeda). There was also areas set up for computer gaming (where you could go in and play a game of Gears of War and other games), an area with people playing dice and card games (such as Dungeons and Dragons, Magic, etc.) and an area where people could do battle against each other using what looked to be soft weapons. This area was very popular and took forever to get around. It seemed that a lot of people wanted to either get into the action or watch it!
The convention was a lot of fun and I would go back again. The event ran for three days and I have to say that I couldn't have spent three days there but one day was fun. We didn't do any of the after hours events because we had other things that we wanted to do while we were in town. The only glitch I seen in the whole event was that Voltaire was suppose to perform (it was suppose to be one of the big draws) and they didn't make it because of inclement weathere wherever they were coming from. My suggestion though is if you get the chance make sure you check out this event in the future.
As a final note: I would like to personally thank Rob from Capitol City Comics in Montgomery, AL and Brent from Quality Comix for the help they gave us at the convention.
